I am a journalist whose love of the outdoors and all things rural has seen me walking the highest Munros, eating Scottish seafood in Singapore, stalking deer with a camera and just about everything imaginable in between.

I have been a journalist since leaving university and my roles have included News Editor of the Scotsman and The Times, where a highlight was running the paper’s news coverage of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. I am now a freelance concentrating on the outdoors and rural issues, contributing to national newspapers, magazines and BBC radio. I also write regular walking columns in The Scots Magazine and Scotland on Sunday.

I have been passionate about hills and mountains since my dad taught me how to use a map and compass in the 1970s. Now I am trying to instil the same love of the outdoors in my own children in between what I am lucky enough to be able to call my work.
